If your rubbish bin was not collected on the scheduled day, there could be a number of reasons.
Before you report a missed bin collection, consider the following questions.
Does the bin belong to the City of Gosnells?
Our bins have a distinct serial number and stamp on the bin lid. If your bin does not belong to the City, we cannot empty it.
Does the bin contain items with the potential to cause damage/fires in the truck?
Read the sticker on the rubbish bin lid for a list of these items.
Was the bin put out on time and correctly?
Bins must be placed on your verge before 6am on the day of collection.
Place your bins one metre from the kerb with wheels closest to your property, allowing 0.5 metres between bins.
Was your bin overfull or too heavy?
Your bin and its contents should weigh less than 70kg or it will be too heavy for the truck to lift.
Overfilling your bin and jamming the materials can prevent the contents from emptying. Check the contents can move easily within the space.
Does the recycling bin contain only material suitable for recycling?
If your recycling bin contains non-recyclable material, it can contaminate an entire truck load of recyclables.
A sticker is usually left on a recycling bin not emptied because it contains items such as:
- Polystyrene, meat trays, cups and beads
- Green waste or food waste
- Gas bottles, flares, batteries or aerosols (full or empty)
- Plastic bags or soft plastics
- Textiles or clothing
- Nappies.
Look under the lid of your bin to check what can be recycled, or refer to What can I recycle?
If your bin was not emptied for any of these reasons, a note will be left advising you of the action to take to ensure resumption of the collection service.
