The first sod has been turned on an extension to the Gosnells Bowling Club, making more room for the club’s growing membership.

The $2.75 million project will include a new function room, kitchen and toilet facilities, plus new boundary fencing along Albany Highway and Dorothy Street.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said the City had conducted extensive studies into the best way to meet the club’s and community’s needs and this extension would expand the capacity of the clubhouse to cater for the future.

“The City of Gosnells has contributed almost $1.5 million to this project and it’s fantastic to finally get shovels in the ground on this much-wanted extension for the Gosnells Bowling Club,” she said.

“With a growing membership right in the heart of the Gosnells town centre, this club is a focal point for many people in our community to come together, meet friends, keep active and get the most out of life in the City of Gosnells.”

The project is jointly funded by the City of Gosnells, the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and the Gosnells Bowling Club.

Member for Burt Matt Keogh said he was proud to have worked with the City and the bowling club on this important project for the whole community.

“The Albanese Government’s contribution of over a million dollars to extend the Gosnells Bowling Club will enhance this widely used community facility for all,” he said.

“Local sport is at the heart of community, and the Gosnells Bowling Club is a thriving example right in the town centre.”

Gosnells Bowling Club Planning Committee Chairman Peter Charkiewicz said the project will create a safe and inclusive space for members, as well as the local community, to enjoy.

“The new venue can be used by members and be hired to the local community for private events, community groups or social gatherings, and is a great way to bring new members and families with young children to the club,” he said.
