Celebrate NAIDOC Week in the City of Gosnells with an exciting line-up of free, culturally-immersive performances and workshops which pay homage to First Nations culture.
To open the week-long celebrations, the City will host a flag-raising ceremony featuring cultural performances and a light lunch on Monday 7 July at the Civic Centre.
“Whether it’s discovering bush tucker on a walk through Mary Carroll Park or immersing yourself in traditional songs and storytelling, the City will be hosting a range of free events to celebrate NAIDOC Week,” Mayor Terresa Lynes said.
“The City is proud of the local Noongar heritage and culture, and strives to work closely with local Indigenous families, community groups and organisations to ensure they continue to be part of our rich history and community.”
This year, NAIDOC Week marks 50 years of celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The 2025 theme – the Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy – recognises the strength in the indelible legacy left by previous generations and the bright future ahead, paved by the next generation of young and emerging First Nations voices and leaders.
Also returning this year is the popular NAIDOC Week Art Exhibition, which showcases the incredible work of renowned local Aboriginal artists, as well as providing a platform for emerging young artists to share their talents.
“We encourage people to come along to support local Indigenous artists – you will even get the chance to purchase Aboriginal art to display at home or in your business or workplace,” Mayor Lynes said.
The NAIDOC Week Art Exhibition will open to the public on weekdays from Tuesday 8 July to Friday 18 July in the Civic Centre reception area.
