City of Gosnells residents who own more than two cats are reminded to register their cats by Friday 11 October, before new limits on the number of cats a person can keep come into effect.

After the new limit comes into effect, people who want to keep more than two cats must apply for a permit from the City.

All cat and dog owners are also reminded pet registration renewals are due by Thursday 31 October.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said pet registration was required by State Government law.

“Wandering pets are at risk of being hit by cars or injured by other animals and can become stressed when they can’t find their way home,” she said.

“Registering your pet is the best way to ensure your pet is returned quickly and safely if it wanders or becomes lost.

“Even if your pet has been registered for life, the annual pet registration deadline is also a timely reminder to check that all your contact details are up to date, so Rangers can reach you if they find your pet lost on the street.”

The Dog Act 1976 requires all dogs from the age of three months be microchipped, registered and wear a registration tag. The Cat Act 2011 requires all cats from the age of six months be sterilised, microchipped and registered.
