Victory celebration for pavilion project

A newly-completed redevelopment of Cassidy Pavilion at Walter Padbury Park in Thornlie will help local footballers kick goals on and off the field.

The $900,500 project was jointly funded by the City of Gosnells and the State Government, with a contribution from the Gosnells City Football Sporting and Social Club. It was officially opened on Monday 11 March.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said the redevelopment provided a flexible, welcoming space for sports and community groups.

“With better views of the sports fields, much more natural light and space for an extra 100 people, Cassidy Pavilion will be much more inviting and user-friendly for the whole community,” Mayor Lynes said.

“What’s more, the installation of LED lighting and solar panels will make the facility more sustainable, cutting costs and carbon emissions to support the City of Gosnells community into the future.”

Minister for Culture and the Arts, Sport and Recreation, International Education and Heritage David Templeman said the redevelopment would benefit the whole community.

“The Cook Labor Government is a proud supporter of community sport and recreation and this project ticks all the boxes, providing a welcoming and accessible space for locals to get active,” he said.

The extended pavilion has been equipped with energy-efficient appliances, including reverse-cycle air conditioning and kitchen fit-out, further enhancing the building’s ecocredentials.
