Need help completing your tax return?

Starting in late July, Thornlie Library will provide free weekly Tax Help sessions. Meet with a volunteer taxation expert from the ATO, who will help you complete your individual tax return.

To be eligible for a Tax Help session, you must have:

  • No ABN
  • $70,000 (or less) in annual income
  • No investment properties

You should also check with the Tax Office to see if you are eligible.

You must register with MyGov before your appointment, and bring your MyGov user ID and password to the appointment. Also bring your bank details and email address with you.

Sessions are only 30 minutes long, so please come with all relevant information prepared. This includes your income statements, payment summaries, notices of assessment from the ATO, your Medicare card, bank/financial institution statements, and any details of taxable income for spouses (married or defacto). Couples wishing to do their tax returns together must still book separate appointments.

For proof of identity, please bring 3 or more of the following documents:

  • Australian Driver's Licence or Learner's Permit
  • Immicard
  • Australian Passport (or Overseas Passport with Australian visa)
  • Australian Birth Certificate
  • Australian Marriage Certificate
  • Australian Citizenship Certificate
  • Change of Name Certificate
  • Recent correspondence from the ATO
  • Previous tax return (no older than 5 years)
  • Centrelink CRN
  • Superannuation account statement

Our Tax Help volunteer will be at the Library from 10am to 12pm every Saturday. If these dates don't suit, you may like to check out the available sessions at Gosnells Library.

Bookings are essential. Please call the Library or visit in person to book a Tax Help session.
