If planting a tree is a great way to ‘do good’ for the environment, imagine the benefits of planting 6,000 trees.

That’s exactly what the City of Gosnells hopes to achieve, with some help from the local community in celebration of National Tree Day on Sunday 11 July.

Mayor David Goode said this annual event was an ideal opportunity for people to get involved in supporting and nurturing their local natural environment.

“Planting a tree is a very symbolic way to help the environment but still very effective in restoring local bush and wetlands, protecting natural reserves and conserving vital habitat,” he said.

“Best of all, this event is a fun day for families and residents of all ages – especially if you’re happy to get your hands dirty, meet your neighbours and make a difference.”

This year, the City is planting trees at Katrine Parade Reserve in Canning Vale, from 9am to 12pm on Sunday 11 July.

Please remember to bring your own trowel, gumboots, gloves, water bottle and appropriate clothing for the weather.

Volunteers are invited to stay for a sausage sizzle afterwards.

National Tree Day is sponsored by Planet Art and Toyota and supported locally by the Armadale Gosnells Landcare Group.

Registration is essential for this free event. Please visit the City’s website at gosnells.wa.gov.au, email environment@gosnells.wa.gov.au or call 9397 3000.
