Games from days gone by, scone and butter-making demonstrations and hands-on experiences in a 1900s replica school room will all be part of an Old Fashioned Family Fun Day at the Wilkinson Homestead Museum on Saturday 8 May.

The event is part of the National Trust’s month-long Australian Heritage Festival, which celebrates the nation’s rich history and heritage.

At the Old Fashioned Family Fun Day from 10am to 12pm, heritage items will be on display and ready to be explored at the Museum. Kids can be photographed wearing period costumes, and demonstrations of traditional laundry chores will spark an appreciation for today’s labour-saving devices, including washing machines and dryers.

City of Gosnells Mayor David Goode said City staff will be on hand to offer advice about taking care of old photographs and objects.

“The City of Gosnells has a fascinating local history and by understanding who we were, we can better understand who we are today,” he said

“The Old Fashioned Family Fun Day will be a wonderful opportunity to get a feel for what life was like in the City of Gosnells 100 years ago, and to see the City’s extensive collection of local heritage items.”

Visitors are also welcome to bring lunch and enjoy a picnic on the lawn.
