The City is committed to protecting the privacy of individuals by ensuring the responsible handling of personal information in compliance with the Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 (PRIS). What is Personal Information?
Personal information includes any information or opinion about an individual. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Name, address, and contact details
- Date of birth
- Identifiers such as driver’s licence or tax file numbers
- Health, financial, or employment information
Collection of Personal Information
The City collects personal information to enable it to conduct its functions as a local government under the Local Government Act (1995) and other relevant legislation.
Use and Disclosure of Personal Information
The City will use personal information only for the purposes for which it was collected, unless:
- You have consented to another use
- It is required or authorised by law
- It is necessary to prevent a serious threat to public health, safety, or welfare
In accordance with PRIS, information may be shared between government agencies to improve service delivery, reduce duplication, and support public policy initiatives, while ensuring appropriate privacy safeguards.
Security and Storage of Personal Information
Personal information collected by the City is stored both electronically and in physical files. Both record types are securely stored to protect individuals’ privacy in compliance with the State Records Act 2000 and PRIS.
Accessing and Correcting Personal Information
You have the right to request access to your personal information and to seek correction if it is inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated.
To request access or corrections, please email our Privacy Officer.
The Privacy Officer will respond to requests within the time frames specified by PRIS and will provide reasons if access or correction is refused.
Privacy Complaints
If you believe your personal information has been handled in a way that breaches legislation, you can lodge a complaint with our Privacy Officer. Complaints must be lodged within 12 months of becoming aware of the privacy breach.

Complaints will be assessed and responded to in accordance with legislative requirements.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may escalate the matter to the Privacy Commissioner of Western Australia.
