Festive Season waste and recycling

Christmas Day and New Year’s Day fall on Wednesdays this year. Waste and recycling bins usually due for collection from Wednesday to Friday of these weeks will be emptied the following day.

Additional weekly recycling bin collections are running between Monday 16 and Saturday 28 December.

Please place your bin is on the verge by 6am on your collection day.

Waste

The grey 240 litre rubbish bin provided by the City is for your general domestic waste only. This includes all organic waste such as food waste, garden waste, lawn clippings, and general household waste.

Bins are collected by robotic arm vehicles and it is important that you follow the bin set out guidelines. Please ensure your bins are on the verge by 6am on the day of your collection, and are placed away from trees, parked cars and letter boxes.

The City of Gosnells offers residents a weekly waste collection, a fortnightly recycling collection and two bulk and green verge collections per year.

Recycling

The City thanks you for recycling right!

We empty your yellow-lidded recycling bin every fortnight. Each truck holds the contents of up to 300 bins. When full, the recyclables are taken to a Materials Recovery Facility for sorting and baling, ready for transportation off site for further processing.

Remember to place items loosely in your bin and not inside plastic bags. Bagged items cannot be sorted and all contents are taken to landfill. Contamination can make your recycling efforts go to waste.

We encourage you to recycle the following:

  • Plastic containers and bottles
  • Aluminium and steel cans
  • Paper and cardboard
  • Glass

Recycling hubs have been placed at the City's Libraries and the Civic Centre. You can to drop-off household hazardous waste (HHW) that must not go in household bins but can be recycled. This creates a safer method to recover resources to be turned into new goods.

You can drop off items such as aerosol cans, mobile phones and chargers, printer cartridges and light globes.

Waste to Energy

The way your waste is processed will be changing soon - the City has signed up to a Waste to Energy project which will convert residual household waste into energy.
