Eve Wolfe has won the $5,000 Overall Acquisitive Award at the City of Gosnells Community Art Exhibition and Awards, for her portrait of her daughter titled Forever 18.
Awarded for its arresting composition, the judge’s notes described the portrait as a detailed piece showing a beautiful sense of the artist’s love for her daughter, in a way that includes all daughters.
City of Gosnells Deputy Mayor Adam Hort said the art exhibition reflected the depth and breadth of the local art community, attracting entries from emerging and professional artists within the City and beyond.
“There is always an incredibly diverse range of quality artworks displayed at the City of Gosnells Community Art Exhibition and Awards and it really reflects the broad range of experiences and views within our community,” he said.
“Once again, the artworks were very difficult to separate during the judging this year, so a huge congratulations to Eve and all our category winners.”
Each category prize was worth $500 and winners were:
• Oil Award – Ray Seddon for Grade Road, Kelmscott
• Acrylic Award – Imogen Harvey for I Am Not Who I Was; High commendation to Renee Rose for Sticks and Stones
• Pastel, Pencil, Pen and Watercolour Award – Sussane Konrad for Rigger
• Photography and Digital Media Award – Annie Aiton for Disconnect; High commendation to Joshua van Blommestein for Autumn Leaves
• Mixed Media and Three-Dimensional Sculpture Award – Neil Elliott for New Friend; High commendation to Madison O’Connell for Something for the Mind • Youth Award (12 – 17 years) – Elleen Li for Hello, Koala
• The City in Focus Award – Toni-Lynn Avis for Refocus in Nature: All I do I do for love
• Local Artist Award – Scott Anderson for Swings and Roundabouts
• Aboriginal Artist Award – Shanese Collard for Self Portrait
The Bendigo Bank Canning Vale People's Choice Award, worth $500, will be awarded after the exhibition closes. Visitors to the exhibition are encouraged to vote for their favourite artwork and the work with the most votes will win this popular prize.
The exhibition will be open until Sunday 26 May at the Lyal Richardson Hall at The Agonis, 2232 Albany Highway, Gosnells
