Celebrate Children’s Book Week with a fun-filled festival at Amherst Village Library, in Southern River, on Saturday 23 August.

From 10am to 2pm, children and their families can enjoy a variety of free activities, including Story Time sessions, gem mining, face painting, badge making and more.

Authors and illustrators Deb Fitzpatrick, Renee Treml and Meg McKinlay will host the Meet the Author sessions, and lead engaging workshops such as Creative Writing, Create Your Own Poetry Collage and Graphic Novel Creations.

In the lead-up to the festival, children are invited to join Ink and Imagination with Gabriel Evans on Wednesday 20 August from 4pm to 5pm.

In this interactive session, Evans will share his step-by-step process for developing characters, before participants have a turn creating their own characters.

City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes said the Children’s Book Week Festival and Ink and Imagination workshop are wonderful ways to spark a love of reading in children.

“We are very pleased to welcome these accomplished authors and illustrators to our Children’s Book Week celebrations. Events like these give local kids a chance to peek behind the curtain of storytelling, discover new ideas and let their imaginations run wild,” she said.

“This year, the Children's Book Week theme, ‘Book an Adventure’, is so fitting because reading really can take kids anywhere, no matter where they are or what the weather’s like. And it’s true – kids who read can take an adventure in the pages of a book.”

The City of Gosnells Children’s Book Week Festival is supported by the WA Government and Children's Book Council of Australia WA.
