City breaks ground on new business park

Clearing is under way and shovels are in the ground at the new 21ha Southern River Business Park.

City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes met with Councillors and the City’s contractors on site for an official turning of the sod this week.

“Today is particularly exciting, because construction of Southern River Business Park will bring lasting benefits for local businesses and residents,” she said.

“As well as providing well-located, in-demand commercial land for businesses, this development will provide local jobs for residents and profit from the project will be directed to community infrastructure, such as the redevelopment of nearby Sutherlands Park and the proposed aquatic centre.

“The Southern River population is projected to almost double by 2036 and the business and social benefits presented by Southern River Business Park will be significant.”
Construction of the business park will take approximately 14 months.

Once complete, Southern River Business Park will include 51 mixed business and light industrial lots sized from 1,211 sqm to 6,456 sqm.

In addition to the 51 commercial lots, the business park will also feature landscaped public open space areas that will serve as a buffer to the neighbouring wetland and Bush Forever site.

“Construction of this business park, from wasteland to the largest commercial project the City has ever undertaken, has been decades in the making,” Mayor Lynes said.

“It is unusual for a local government to release a business park of this scale and, after all these years, it is particularly pleasing to see machinery onsite. I look forward to seeing Southern River Business Park take shape over the next 14 months.”
