The City of Gosnells is tackling the ongoing problem of illegal dumping by introducing covert cameras in a range of locations throughout the City.

The high-quality cameras will record 24 hours a day.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said dumped rubbish in public spaces was costly to remove and could include items that were dangerous for members of the public as well as unsightly and unpleasant for passers-by.

“The City of Gosnells has video footage of a number of illegal dumping incidents and has already identified a number of offenders,” she said.

“The City will prosecute those offenders and is actively working to identify others. Those that can be identified will be prosecuted.

“There is no excuse for illegal dumping – it’s a serious health hazard and an eyesore, and our community is fed up with it.

“It costs the City upwards of $250,000 each year to remove and dispose of illegally dumped rubbish, which could be much better spent on services and programs for our community.

“In recent months, the amount of rubbish being dumped has increased, as has the cost of disposing of it.”

The penalty for individuals dumping rubbish is up to $5,000.

For businesses or corporate entities, the penalty is up to $10,000.

If you see dumped rubbish or someone dumping rubbish, take note of any vehicle registration, vehicle type and a description of the person, and report it to the City by calling 9397 3000. If it is safe to take photographs, or you have dashcam footage, these can also be provided to the City.
