The City of Gosnells crackdown on illegal dumping has led to the prosecution of a second local resident who was caught in the act by covert CCTV cameras.

Despite missing an appearance in the Armadale Magistrates Court on Thursday 3 April, a 30-year-old Southern River man was found guilty of illegally dumping rubbish along Holmes Road in Southern River – a known dumping hot spot – on 3 November last year.

He was fined $1,500 and ordered to pay court costs of $766.

In March, a Huntingdale man pleaded guilty to dumping household rubbish at the same location on Holmes Street and was fined $800.

Mayor Terresa Lynes hopes that the two recent prosecutions served as a stark reminder for people to think twice about dumping rubbish illegally.

“This is the second offender to be prosecuted for illegal dumping in the City of Gosnells in recent weeks, so it goes to show that our efforts to target illegal dumping are working – and that this practice has consequences,” Mayor Lynes said.

“So, if you think you can get away with it, think again.”

The City is in the process of prosecuting three more people who have been caught in the act on CCTV cameras, with a further 16 offences still under investigation.

The penalty for individuals dumping rubbish is up to $5,000 and for businesses or corporate entities it is up to $10,000.

If you see dumped rubbish or someone dumping rubbish, take note of any vehicle registration, vehicle type and a description of the person, and report it to the City by calling 9397 3000.

If it is safe to take photographs, or you have dashcam footage, these can also be provided to the City.
