After attracting a record-breaking crowd last year, the City of Gosnells spectacular Fusion Food and Culture Festival returns to showcase the rich tapestry of cultures in the local community.
More than 40,000 people converged on Mills Park in Beckenham for the 2023 event, making it the biggest ever event in the City’s history.
Mills Park will again host Fusion Festival over two big nights this year, from 4pm to 9pm on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 November, with the City’s multicultural community showcased through an eclectic array of food, music, dance and art.
Mayor Terresa Lynes said last year’s event was such a huge success that it was decided to bring the start time forward to 4pm each day this year.
“The City is proud to have such a vibrant, culturally diverse community, and we are excited to bring together this brilliant combination of food, entertainment and activities for people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy.”
Over the two nights, the festival will feature a captivating mix of live performances on the main Fusion Stage and the Great Beginnings Viva Stage as well as roving entertainment, a Global Village filled with stallholders from a variety of cultural backgrounds, subsidised carnival rides, youth and children’s activities and food trucks serving cuisine from a wide range of countries and cultures.
Among the highlights at Fusion this year will be a giant winged humanoid puppet known as The Messenger, making its first visit to Western Australia.
Towering over 5m tall, the futuristic archangel-style puppet will be illuminated by LED lighting and brought to life by eight talented performers and puppeteers.
“We are thrilled to have The Messenger puppet at Fusion, which will provide the perfect setting for this awe-inspiring figure to make its WA debut,” Mayor Lynes said.
Diverse musical acts set to perform over the weekend include Perth-based Nigerian-Jamaican Australian Idol contestant Drea, award-winning soul artist Alexia Parenzee, WA-based duo Dear Sunday, Zimbabwean singer-songwriter Rumbie Tavazia with Shangara Jive and Cuban band De Cuban Son.
Also set to hit the stage to showcase their culture are Indonesian dance troupe Selendang Sutra, Middle Eastern dance group Zahara Dance Company, bellydancers from Zahara Dance Group and more.
Energetic Japanese performers Taiko On (Friday night) and Brazilian-inspired SambOzzy (Saturday night) will captivate audiences ahead of the fireworks finale.
A free shuttle bus service will run between Mills Park and Maddington Central shopping centre throughout the event, with all passengers in with a chance to win a $500 gift card to use at Maddington Central.
Fusion Food and Culture Festival is a City of Gosnells event sponsored by Lotterywest and supported by Great Beginnings and Maddington Central shopping centre.
