Get your creative juices flowing – entries are now open for the City of Gosnells Community Art Exhibition and Awards 2024, presented by Bendigo Bank.

The annual competition showcases work by local artists and those from further afield and has a total prize pool of $10,000, including a $5,000 Overall Acquisitive Award.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said the Community Art Exhibition and Awards was one of the City’s most popular arts and culture events each year.

“Every year the awards give us an opportunity to celebrate the rich diversity and talents of artists in our local areas as well as those across greater Perth,” she said.

“I encourage both professional and aspiring artists to enter and the residents of Gosnells to bring their family and friends and enjoy browsing the artworks that will be on display in The Agonis.”

City of Gosnells residents and ratepayers can submit two pieces each while non-residents can submit one piece.

In addition to the $5,000 acquisitive prize for the Overall Award winner, there are 10 categories with a $500 prize for each, including:

• Acrylic
• Pastel, Pencil, Pen and Watercolour
• Oil
• Photography and Digital Media
• Mixed Media and Three-Dimensional Sculpture
• Youth Award (12 – 17 years)
• The City in Focus Award
• Bendigo Bank People’s Choice Award
• Local Artist Award
• Aboriginal Artist Award
All prize categories, except the Bendigo Bank People’s Choice Award, will be judged by the City of Gosnells Public Art Committee.

Exhibition visitors can vote for their favourite artwork to win the Bendigo Bank People’s Choice Award and can purchase artworks on display.

Last year’s exhibition attracted more than 230 entrants, with Tatiana Amaral’s mixed media piece The Dark Gold winning the $5,000 Overall Award.

It was the first time in more than six years the winning artwork was not an oil or acrylic painting.

This year’s exhibition will take place at the Lyal Richardson Hall in The Agonis, Gosnells, from Saturday 18 May to Sunday 26 May. Entries close at 4pm on Thursday 14 March.
