Community help needed to plant 6,500 trees for National Tree Day

Get outside and help your environment this National Tree Day.

On Sunday 30 July, the City of Gosnells is asking volunteers to join the annual planting effort, with more than 6,500 native seedlings to be planted this year.

With support from Armadale Gosnells Landcare Group, this year’s event will run from 9am to 12pm at Homestead Park, Glenbrook Road, Thornlie.

City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes encouraged people to volunteer to take part.

“Every year, National Tree Day is an enjoyable, memorable day with a great community feel to it,” she said.

“Come down, get some fresh air and be prepared to get your hands dirty as we plant more than 6,500 native seedlings.”

Community support for the event has grown each year, as the City continues to focus on conserving local wetlands and natural reserves to create food sources and habitats for native wildlife.

Participants are asked to bring their own trowels, gloves, gumboots and water bottle.

“Make sure you dress appropriately for the weather – we’ll be going ahead rain or shine,” Mayor Lynes said.

“Please feel welcome to bring your friends and family along – we encourage everyone from kids to grandparents to take part and appreciate every bit of help, whether you can stay all morning or pitch in for an hour.”

The City will provide a sausage sizzle for volunteers after planting.
