Last chance to enter Underground Sounds 2023

Young musicians take note – entries for the annual City of Gosnells Gozzy Rock presents Underground Sounds competition close on Tuesday 1 August.

Entry is free for the annual competition, which is open to young musicians aged 12 to 25 who live, work or go to school in the City of Gosnells. For bands, at least one member must fulfil this requirement.

Mayor Terresa Lynes encouraged young musicians of all backgrounds to enter.

“When Gozzy Rock originally started in 1986, it was WA’s first age-inclusive, battle-of-the-bands event, and quickly established a positive reputation and strong following,” Mayor Lynes said.

“The competition evolved into Underground Sounds in 2022, to better reflect the range of musical styles and acts it attracts each year.

“These days, the competition encompasses a broad spectrum of musical genres, featuring solo artists and duo acts, as well as bands.

“Whether your music is a showcase of rock, rap, indie, country, folk, metal or electronic, I hope you’ll enter.”

Six selected finalists will perform to a live crowd at the final, at The Underground youth centre in Southern River on Saturday 14 October, with more than $3,000 of prizes up for grabs, including the Mega Music Raw Talent Award.

Mayor Lynes said the event was a standout on the City’s social calendar for music lovers of all ages.

“The City of Gosnells has always aimed to support our young people and the arts,” she said.

“For more than 35 years, Gozzy Rock has been an awesome event for young people keen to break into the WA music scene, helping give a platform for some amazing emerging local talent.”

Musicians can submit their entries online at gosnells.wa.gov.au by Tuesday 1 August to be judged by the selection committee to determine six finalists. For more information, click here or call 9397 3000.
