Local competitive swimmer Anisha Azizi is among thousands of City of Gosnells residents who eagerly support the proposed development of the Sutherlands Park Leisure, Aquatic and Sports Hub (SPLASH).

With no access to a 50m pool within the City, Anisha currently travels between Huntingdale and East Perth up to eight times a week to meet her demanding swim training schedule.

The 15-year-old said having SPLASH close to home would be life-changing.

“Having this local facility would save me so much wasted travel time”, Anisha said.

“It would also allow me to have more free time for hobbies and get the chance to meet more people within the local community.”

Anisha added that the travel to and from training each week has meant she has little time for other activities.

“The distance is quite challenging as it takes a lot of time and commitment,” she said.

“Having a 50m pool close to me would be better, as I can find people in my own community who share my love and passion for the sport.”

Anisha is among 3,787 people in the local community who have signed letters of support for SPLASH, which are being delivered straight to the inboxes of local politicians.

The City has committed $66 million toward the anticipated $132 million cost for the project and seeks government funding for the remainder.

“We are still seeking further funding for this project and time is running out for the City to deliver this proposed development based on the estimated project costs,” Mayor Terresa Lynes said.

“We are urging our State and Federal politicians to commit funding towards this project, which will bring life-saving and life-changing benefits to our community.”
