Young readers can experience the magic world of books during the City of Gosnells Children’s Book Week Festival on Saturday 24 August.
A free line-up of fun, interactive events will take place at Gosnells Library between 9am and 1pm, with activities including LEGO construction, face painting, craft and story time.
Inspired by the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book Week theme, Reading is Magic, children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character.
Young booklovers will also get the chance to meet special guests during the City’s book week festivities, including author Cristy Burne, writer-illustrators Briony Stewart and Gabriel Evans, and illustrator Alicia Rogerson.
“Reading is such an important part of childhood learning, and we love seeing kids in our community come together over their love of books,” Mayor Terresa Lynes said.
“Engaging young people to read in their early years not only sparks their imagination but also improves their literacy and comprehension, which are vital life skills.”
In the lead up to the festival, the City will run a 'magical' colouring-in competition that will be judged on the day by writer-illustrator Gabriel Evans.
A winner will be selected from entries across two age groups – for children aged from two to six, and children aged from seven to 12.
Entries to the colouring-in competition will close at 1pm on the day.
The City of Gosnells Children's Book Week Festival is supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
