New centre for community to Connect@Kenwick

A new community hub in Kenwick will provide much-needed space for community groups and City of Gosnells residents.

Connect@Kenwick was officially opened by Councillors and community members today.

City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes said when the Kenwick Library relocated down the road to become Mills Park Library last year, the vacated building presented an exciting opportunity for the City.

“In recent years, the number of community groups requesting to use City facilities has increased,” she said.

“Community groups within the City will be able to use the facilities at Connect@Kenwick, free, to provide a range of training, workshops, programs and events for residents.

“Connect@Kenwick is designated specifically for community and not-for-profit groups to use, for the benefit of the local community.”

Already, 10 community groups have signed up to use the facility, with programs and activities on offer every day of the week.

Connect@Kenwick includes a large catering-style kitchen, spaces available for community group use and an outdoor playground.

The names of the rooms within the centre were chosen in consultation with the nearby Friends of Brixton Street Wetlands, and represent flora from the wetlands.

The $400,000 project was funded by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communication through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, as part of the Australian Government’s plan to stimulate local economies and assist recovery from the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
