Youngsters flock to special Story Time

Children at Amherst Village Library in Southern River and Gosnells Library recently joined children across Australia for National Simultaneous Storytime.

Bowerbird Blues, by Aura Parker, was read at the same time in libraries, schools, daycare centres and homes across Australia.

Children, their parents and carers and library staff were joined by special guest reader, Deputy Mayor Adam Hort at Amherst Village library where they sang rhymes, listened to the story and crafted their own blue bowerbirds as part of the special Story Time event.

“It was a delight to meet some of our youngest residents and share this beautiful book,” Cr Hort said.

“Story Time is a great way for young children to practise language skills, singing, actions and listening – and who doesn’t love a bit of craft to finish?”

Mayor Terresa Lynes said the City’s four libraries regularly hosted a wide range of events, for community members of all ages.

“The City’s libraries have plenty to offer beyond books – there are online resources and streaming media, audiobooks, places to study or gather, comics, magazines, music, games, jigsaws and much more,” she said.

National Simultaneous Storytime is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association. At Gosnells Library, the event was held in conjunction with Paint the Highway REaD.
