The City of Gosnells has secured $168,493 from the Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA) Urban Greening Grants Program to revegetate 3.34 hectares at Harmony Fields in 2025. This initiative will involve planting over 47,000 locally native, waterwise plants to enhance the areas ecological health and sustainability, as well as community well-being.

This Urban Greening Grants Program is delivered by the City of Gosnells with the support of WALGA and funded by the Government of Western Australia.

Key Environmental Values and Reasons for the Project:

Biodiversity Enhancement-

Planting native species will boost local biodiversity, providing crucial habitats and food sources for wildlife, including endangered Black-Cockatoos.

Climate Mitigation-

The project will help cool urban areas, counteracting the heat island effect through shade and evapotranspiration, which also reduces energy costs.

Water Conservation-

Waterwise plants are adapted to the local climate and require less irrigation, promoting sustainable water use in a region prone to drought.

Community Benefits-

The revitalised space will enhance the area's aesthetic appeal, encouraging outdoor activities and social interactions while serving as an educational resource.

Soil Health Improvement-

Native plants will enhance soil quality through increased organic matter and microbial activity, promoting a resilient ecosystem.
