Our natural heritage
The City's natural environmental assets set it apart from most other Perth metropolitan local governments. From the Darling Scarp to the Swan Coastal Plain, the City of Gosnells' 127 square kilometres encompass forests, woodlands, heathlands, wetlands, rivers and streams.
The key natural features of the City include:
- The Canning and Southern Rivers and their tributaries provide green corridors through the landscapeÂ
- Scenic Ellis Brook Valley, whose wildflower display is the best in the metropolitan area
- Brixton Street Wetlands, part of the Greater Brixton Street Wetlands, are on the Register of the National Estate
- Mary Carroll Park Wetlands are an important waterbird roosting and summer refuge site.
Guided by its Biodiversity Conservation Management Plan 2010, the City manages a number of key natural areas for their biodiversity and amenity value.
