City of Gosnells Mayor Dave Griffiths and Disability Services Minister Helen Morton marked the commencement of extensions to the City of Gosnells’ Leisure World facility with a turning of the sod on Thursday 9 January 2014.

Two multi-purpose community rooms, an extension of gym space, universally accessible gym, fitness area and modified entry plus additional car parking space will give Leisure World a new look with onsite work now underway.

City of Gosnells Mayor Dave Griffiths said the extensions to Leisure World would benefit the whole community.

“I’m delighted the City has been able to incorporate a universally accessible gym and fitness area into the extension plans, improving access for all people to Leisure World’s facilities,” said Mayor Griffiths.

The 199sqm gym extension will make fitness regimes more enjoyable with additional fitness equipment being purchased to reduce the need for patrons to queue.

Classes such as Aero Boxing, Body Pump, RPM, Pilates and Step will also benefit with extra gym space translating into additional timeslots on the aerobic program.

Reconfiguration of the existing car park will increase capacity from its current 83 bays to a total of 124 bays with an additional 17 on street car bays being installed.

The $1.8million project has been funded by the City of Gosnells, with support of $500,000 Lotterywest.

It is expected the work will be complete by October 2014.
