The Youth Entertainment Space (YES) at Sutherlands Park in Huntingdale is turning one,   and the City of Gosnells is hosting a free community event to celebrate the milestone.

Young people and their families are invited to the YES First Birthday Celebration from 10am to 1pm on Saturday 16 May. The event will feature a free sausage sizzle and free ice creams for the first 300 attendees.

The celebration will also include henna art, basketball and skate jams, and a range of art activities.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said thousands of young people had enjoyed the facility since it  officially opened in May 2025.

“The City is incredibly proud to be leading the way in providing facilities for young people, and the response to YES has been phenomenal,” she said.

“It’s fantastic to see all the features of the facility being enjoyed by so many young people, and it sends a clear message that our youth are a valued and important part of our community.”

Designed in consultation with City of Gosnells young people, YES features a split-level skating plaza with rails and banks, a shallow skate bowl for all skill levels and a sealed pump track for BMX bikes, mountain bikes and scooters.

YES also includes an urban play area with a hangout zone, social swings and platform seating, a rebound wall and a multipurpose court for games such as basketball, netball and futsal.

“YES is the perfect place for young people to stay active, socialise and connect, whether they’re playing games, trying out skating, BMX, mountain biking or scooter tricks, or just chilling out with friends,” Mayor Lynes said.

The City of Gosnells invested $4.7 million in the design and construction of YES, with the State Government contributing a further $2 million.
