New Kenwick dog park a howling success

Dog owners and their furry friends are voicing their approval for a new dog park in Kenwick.

The City of Gosnells recently opened the Oliphant Park enclosed dog park, providing a dedicated place for four-legged residents and their owners to exercise, play and socialise off leash in a safe environment.

Deputy Mayor Serena Williamson said the City had responded to community feedback calling for more enclosed off-leash dog parks.

“This new dedicated space gives dogs an opportunity to interact with other dogs and people, while enjoying the freedom to run, play and burn off energy,” Cr Williamson said.

“Oliphant Dog Park provides a safe, welcoming space for local residents to enjoy the outdoors with their dogs.”

The new facility features large and small grassed enclosures surrounded by vegetation, each with its own double gated entry.

Other features include seating, dog waste bins and an accessible water fountain with a dog bowl and bottle refill outlet.

Cr Williamson said the location was selected following a petition from the Kenwick community requesting an enclosed dog park.

Community feedback also helped shape the design, with dog owners identifying key features including double-gated entrances, shade, drinking water, natural elements for dogs to explore, and separate areas for dogs of different sizes and temperaments.

The City is now investigating opportunities to deliver additional enclosed dog parks in other locations across the City.
