The City of Gosnells is celebrating the generosity of local businesses, community groups and faith organisations that are stepping up to support residents in need this festive season.

Across the City, donation drives and acts of kindness are helping families facing financial hardship feel supported and valued.

Mayor Terresa Lynes, who has helped facilitate several of the partnerships on behalf of the City, said the community response has been inspiring.

“The Season of Giving is about compassion and connection,” Mayor Lynes said.

“It’s wonderful to see so many organisations working together to make a real difference for people doing it tough.

“When we unite around a common purpose, the impact is extraordinary.”

A number of initiatives are underway across the City of Gosnells.

• IGA Maddington has placed a Mission Australia donations bin in-store and will match every donation received.
• IGA Gosnells has installed a Salvos donation bin and will also match all donations.
• Masjid Al-Rahman Mosque is running a food drive for Mission Australia until the end of the year, helping ensure families have the essentials they need.

Imam Salmaan Parkar from Masjid Al-Rahman Mosque said the motivation behind the food drive is simple.

“No family in our City should feel alone during difficult times,” Imam Parkar said.

“At a time when many households face real financial strain, we want to stand beside them with compassion and practical support.

“Our tradition from the Prophet Muhammad teaches us that, “The best of people are those who are most beneficial to others,” and this initiative is one way we bring that principle to life.”

The mosque, located at 45 Mills Road West, Gosnells, invites the wider community to donate long-life food items and essential household supplies.

Donation bins are accessible during daily prayer times and Friday congregational prayer.

The food drive will run until Mission Australia’s scheduled collection date at the end of the year.

Mission Australia Area Manager Robyn Fernihough said these partnerships are crucial.

“More West Australians are doing it tough than ever before,” Ms Fernihough said.

“The cost-of-living crisis and housing crisis means people are often having to choose between paying bills or eating.

“This collaboration will help us provide food assistance to those who need it most.”

Mayor Lynes said it was heartening to see so many organisations supporting those in need this festive season.

“Every contribution counts – whether it’s food, funds or simply spreading the word,” Mayor Lynes said.

“Thank you to the many organisations across the City and beyond who are helping vulnerable members of the community.

“Let’s come together and make a real difference this season.”
