City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes has been elected Chair of the National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA).

Mayor Lynes was officially elected last week, after acting in the role since early 2024.

“Fast-growing local government areas, such as the City of Gosnells, face a range of challenges and opportunities that many other communities never have to consider,” she said.

“Collaborating with other local government leaders across the country who are in similar situations allows us to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and advocate more effectively for the needs of our communities.”

Alongside Mayor Lynes, the Mayor of the City of Penrith in New South Wales Todd Carney was elected Deputy Chair of the NGAA.

The NGAA represents 22 local government areas across Australia, which share similar challenges and opportunities.

“Here in the City of Gosnells, we are working to reduce the rapid clearing of land for new subdivisions, which impacts local biodiversity, liveability and our community’s climate resilience,” Mayor Lynes said.

“We are also focused on ensuring that new housing developments are supported by adequate employment opportunities and recreation facilities. This helps to reduce congestion and improve quality of life for our residents.

“These challenges are common in rapidly-growing areas, and by working together with other local governments and pushing for policy change, we aim to make a real difference.”
