An East Perth business has been ordered to pay $17,000 by the Armadale Magistrates Court, after being caught illegally dumping waste on covert CCTV cameras installed by the City of Gosnells.

Mammoth Contracting Pty Ltd was fined for five separate instances of illegal dumping in Holmes Road, Southern River.

Four incidents occurred on 30 October 2024, with a further incident recorded on 2 November 2024.

Two offences attracted fines of $3,000 each, after hazardous items, including tyres and a gas cylinder, were dumped posing a risk to public safety. The remaining three offences resulted in fines of $1,500 each.

The company was also ordered to pay the City’s legal costs of $6,500.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said the outcome sent a clear message that illegal dumping would not be tolerated.

“Covert CCTV is proving to be a powerful tool in catching offenders, and this case has resulted in the largest fines and costs we’ve seen so far,” she said.

“It costs the City about $250,000 each year to clean up dumped rubbish from public land – money that could be better spent on services for our community.

“During this cost-of-living crisis, when the City is working hard to keep rates low for our residents, this is particularly frustrating.

“This behaviour is unacceptable. We are naming this company because our community deserves to know who is doing the wrong thing.”

Individuals caught dumping rubbish may face fines of up to $5,000, while businesses or corporate entities may be fined up to $10,000.

If you see dumped rubbish or witness illegal dumping, note any vehicle registration, vehicle type and a description of the person involved, and report it to the City by calling 9397 3000.

If it is safe to do so, photographs or dashcam footage can also be provided to assist investigations.
