The City of Gosnells has been named 2026 Platinum Waterwise Council of the Year, recognising its outstanding leadership in water conservation.

The City’s sustained commitment to effective, long-term water-saving initiatives was acknowledged at an event celebrating Western Australia’s leading Waterwise councils and organisations on Wednesday 6 May. Mayor Terresa Lynes said the Platinum Waterwise status reflected years of consistent effort and a whole-of-organisation approach to sustainable water management.

“This award recognises the long-term work the City has put into smarter irrigation, waterwise landscaping and water-sensitive design across our facilities and open spaces,” Mayor Lynes said.

“We’re proud to be leading by example, showing how innovation and thoughtful design can deliver significant water savings while still keeping our parks and streetscapes green and welcoming,” she said.

The City has participated in the Waterwise Councils since 2019.

Among the initiatives contributing to the City’s Platinum recognition is its award-winning Smart Drainage Program which uses advanced technology to inspect underground drainage infrastructure and help prevent flooding.

The City also spearheaded a joint campaign with neighbouring local governments to secure Federal Government funding to support restoration of the Canning, Southern and Wungong rivers, which face increasing environmental pressures.

A major upgrade at Mary Carroll Park, including bridges and lookouts, has strengthened   community and access to the internationally recognised wetlands and transformed the area into a ‘living classroom’ for visitors of all ages.
