Construction of the $13.1 million state-of-the-art Langford Indoor Sports Centre in the City of Gosnells is ready to start, with the first sod officially turned last weekend.

Set to become the City’s first indoor multicourt and multisport facility, the centre is being constructed at the site of Langford Netball Complex, home of Southern Districts Netball Association.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said the local community is thrilled to see the project come to fruition following years of planning and campaigning.

“The centre will provide great opportunities for people in the City and beyond to play the sports they love, including netball, badminton, volleyball and basketball, all year round – regardless of the weather,” Mayor Lynes said.

“We know this new centre will be appreciated by many in the sports community and it is exciting to see this project come to life.”

With expected completion by August 2025, the new centre will have four indoor courts, including a show court with a 200-seat grandstand and three multipurpose courts, gender neutral changerooms, an umpires’ room, kiosk, first-aid room, administration offices, match office and a community hall.

Temporary accommodation will be installed to allow netball to continue on the outdoor courts during construction.

The City is contributing $6 million to the project, with the Australian Government contributing $5 million under the Priority Community Infrastructure Program and the State Government contributing $1.5 million through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries’ Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Fund program.

Member for Burt Matt Keogh said the project would bring together athletes from across the community and expand the capacity of the Southern Districts Netball Association to include more youth in competition.

“This new facility means the next generation of elite athletes in Perth’s south-east won’t have to miss out, with elite competition taking place right here in our backyard,” Mr Keogh said.

Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman said the new sports centre would be a fantastic facility for the local community.

“I am delighted that the Cook Government was able to contribute $1.5 million towards this project, which will take just over a year to complete,” he said.
