Vivid abstracts, striking landscapes and vibrant depictions of wildlife are among nearly 200 eye-catching artworks that will feature in this year’s City of Gosnells Community Art Exhibition and Awards.

Open to the public from Saturday 17 May to Sunday 25 May, the exhibition and awards – presented by the City and sponsored by Maddington Central – will be held at the Lyal Richardson Hall in Gosnells.

There were 53 entries from young artists, twice as many as last year, while entries from local artists increased to more than 70.

City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes said it was encouraging to see so many talented artists submit work this year.

“Not only does it provide a platform for local artists to showcase their art, but it also gives people the opportunity to secure their very own, unique piece of art for their home,” she said.

Running alongside the exhibition are a series of events, including the Pop-Up Art Markets, the Winter Creation Series of ceramic workshops, an artist networking evening and an artist talk with New York Times best-selling cartoonist Gavin Aung Than.

Visitors to the exhibition are also encouraged to cast their vote for their favourite art piece in the Maddington Central People’s Choice Award, which will close on Sunday 25 May.
