Set your tastebuds and senses alight at the City of Gosnells Fusion Food and Culture Festival next month.

The annual multicultural community event returns to Mills Park, Brixton Street, Beckenham, on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 November from 4pm to 9pm, fresh from winning a National Award for Local Government this year.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said Fusion celebrates cultural diversity within the City of Gosnells, showcasing exciting food, music, art, cultural displays, traditional dance and costumes.

“Fusion is a festival for the senses,” Mayor Lynes said.

“Immerse yourself in tastes, sights, sounds, aromas and performances from all over the world. Entry is free and there are plenty of free and subsidised activities and performances to entertain the whole family.”

For the fifth year in a row, Fusion will be held over two nights, with different headline acts and stage line-ups across two stages each evening, followed by a spectacular fireworks finale.

“Fusion combines multicultural talent, global arts and crafts, interactive cultural activities and experiences, a Global Village, youth and children’s activities and roving entertainment – with food from all corners of the globe,” Mayor Lynes said.

More than 43 per cent of City of Gosnells residents were born overseas, hailing from more than 160 different countries. At least 155 languages are spoken in homes across the City, making Gosnells one of the most diverse local governments in WA.

Fusion audiences will be treated to a wide array of talent, ranging from Afro Brazilian beats to Indonesian Dance, Zimbabwean rhythms, Japanese Taiko drums and a soothing Maori choir.

The Global Village features performances, displays and presentations by local multicultural groups and the expanded Global Safari area boasts a range of animatronic creatures, with educational displays and a new Global Safari Passport for children.

The Whale, a suspended art installation from Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, provides an immersive and interactive experience including music and storytelling.

Thrill-seekers can brave Sideshow Alley for carnival rides and sideshow attractions, with tokens available at the subsidised price of three tokens for $10.

Fusion also offers a Sensory Space and Multi-Faith Worship Space, for quiet time, if needed.

Limited parking is available at Mills Park and Fusion attendees can avoid parking hassles by taking advantage of the City’s free shuttle bus services connecting Mills Park with Maddington Central shopping centre and Beckenham train station, from 4pm to 10pm each day. People who use the shuttle buses will have the chance to win Maddington Central gift cards.

Lotterywest is the major supporter of the City of Gosnells Fusion Food and Culture Festival, and the event is also supported by Maddington Central and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions Plastic Free Riverpark Program.
