Get planting for National Tree Day

Community members are invited to make a lasting difference to the local environment, with 8,000 native plants to be planted for National Tree Day in the City of Gosnells.

A community planting day will be held at Hester Park in Langford, from 9am to 12pm on Sunday 26 July.

City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes said volunteers would be treated to a sausage sizzle after planting.

“Trees and other native plants help to cool our neighbourhoods, improve biodiversity and generally make living in the City of Gosnells much more pleasant and enjoyable,” she said.

“We want to encourage as many people as possible to come down to Hester Park, dig in and make our community spaces greener and greater.”

Participants should bring gloves, a water bottle, and wear gumboots or other sturdy footwear and appropriate clothing for the weather and digging in the dirt.

To take part, simply arrive on the day and sign in at the registration tent.

This project forms part of the broader Cleaning up the Canning initiative, funded by the Australian Government’s Urban Rivers and Catchments Program, with support from the Cities of Armadale, Canning, and Gosnells, the Town of Victoria Park, South East Regional Centre for Urban Landcare, Whadjuk Aboriginal Corporation, Armadale Gosnells Landcare Group, Water Corporation and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.
