Gosnells teenager Kael Davies has been recognised in WALGA’s 2024 Showcase in Pixels Art Competition for his captivating collage paying tribute to his mother’s contribution to the Gosnells State Emergency Service and local community.
The talented 16-year-old won the Non-Professional Individual category with his first entry into an art competition.
“Typically, I creatively express myself through music and this is the first art competition I have ever entered myself in,” Kael said.
“To win made me feel like there is a future in my art career.”
Kael’s artwork is a collage of dried and pressed native flora and fauna sourced from the Gosnells area, which is blended with iconography and photography from the Gosnells SES’s archived advertisements, promotional material and newspapers.
City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes was impressed by the 16-year-old’s eye-catching creation, which was chosen from a selection of entries to represent the City in the competition.
“Kael is a deserving winner of this category of Showcase in Pixels and it is amazing that he has created such an incredible piece, with a special personal connection,” Mayor Lynes said.
“The work also reflects the importance of the SES in our community.
“The City is proud to support young, budding talent like Kael and we wish him all the best in his future art career.”
The winners were announced at a special awards ceremony in Perth, with their artwork displayed on the digital tower at Yagan Square.
