Planned upgrades to the Don Russell Performing Arts Centre (DRPAC) will deliver a more accessible, energy efficient and comfortable experience for performers and patrons.

The upgrades will include new seating, carpets and handrails, as well as an energy-efficient LED lighting system and new audio mixing console. A stage extension and adjustable rostra system (a series of platforms with adjustable legs) will expand staging options and improve wheelchair accessibility for performers.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said the improvements would enhance the venue’s ambience and make it more appealing to performers and hirers.

“DRPAC brings quality music, theatre, dance and more to the City of Gosnells community. Projects such as this are important to extend the life of the centre while improving accessibility and efficiency,” she said.

“Having a welcoming and accessible performing arts centre close to home is particularly important in the current economic climate, offering residents affordable entertainment without the need to travel long distances.”

Member for Thornlie Colleen Egan welcomed the improvements to DRPAC.

“The Don Russell Performing Arts Centre has a stellar reputation for top quality performances, often attracting audiences from across Perth,” she said.

“It is a jewel of the local scene, and these improvements will further enhance the experience of live entertainment and culture."

The $417,000 project is supported by a $219,959 grant from Lotterywest, with the City of Gosnells contributing the balance.
