The State Government has directed the departments of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) and Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (DLGIRS) to remediate the Li-ion Energy battery recycling facility site, including removal and disposal of batteries, following a fire earlier this year.
The City would like this work to be completed as soon as possible and has requested a progress report from DWER. Once provided, the City will publish this information on its website.
The City’s priority is for DWER and LGIRS to urgently complete the removal of the batteries and remediate the site so it no longer poses risk to the Maddington community.
More information about the State Government's response to this incident, as well as avenues for reporting concerns, is available on the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation's Environment Watch website at Maddington Battery Fire - July 2026 - Environment Watch.
