Staff from the City of Gosnells Leisure World and 11-year-old Annabell Macey have been recognised with bravery awards for saving the life of a young boy who almost drowned.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said that when the boy jumped into the deep end of the pool, Annabell noticed that he had not resurfaced and alerted Lifeguards.

“Fortunately, Annabell saw the boy at the bottom of the pool and quickly alerted Lifeguards. The Leisure World team on duty responded swiftly, performing a rescue, administering lifesaving CPR, evacuating the busy centre and calling emergency services,” Mayor Lynes said.

“Thanks to the quick action and teamwork of Annabell and our staff, the young boy made a full recovery after spending just a few days in hospital.”

At the recent Royal Life Saving Society Western Australia Bravery Awards, WA Governor Chris Dawson commended those involved and presented Gold Medallion Bravery Awards to former Leisure World Lifeguard Tate Campbell and Swim School Teacher Alicia Ng.

Lifeguards Erin Thomas and Tara O’Brien received the Gold Star Bravery Award and former Aquatics Team Leader Tarni Corkran, Swim School Teacher Sharon Bryce, Swim School Supervisor Pam Vincent and Annabell Macey each received a Bravery Commendation.
