Small business thrives in City of Gosnells

The City of Gosnells is one of the top five local government areas for small business growth in Western Australia, according to new data from the Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC).

More than 2,900 businesses were established across the City between 2020 and 2025, reflecting the area’s strong population growth and increasing economic activity.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said small businesses were an essential part of the community, creating jobs, delivering local services and contributing to the City’s economic prosperity.

“The City is committed to supporting local small business as we welcome more people to our fast-growing community,” she said.

The City is a member of the SBDC’s Small Business Friendly local government alliance, a voluntary partnership of local governments committed to supporting local small business owners and operators.

The latest SBDC figures show more than 30,000 new sole traders and small businesses were established across WA between 2020 and 2025, with many of the State's fastest-growing population centres recording the strongest growth.

WA Small Business Commissioner Saj Abdoolakhan said the figures highlighted the close relationship between population growth and business creation.

"The City of Gosnells is home to a diverse and growing business community, where affordable commercial opportunities, strong population growth and a supportive local environment are helping businesses establish, expand and succeed,” he said.

“It is also attracting new young families, skilled workers and migrants who all need homes, services and infrastructure.”
