City of Gosnells residents can now discover which native plants will thrive in their gardens thanks to two colourful new signs outside the Amherst Village Community Centre in Southern River.
The signs include a photographic list of native waterwise plants suitable for the local climate, as well as tips on how to prepare for and establish native plants.
Mayor Terresa Lynes said the gardens outside the Amherst building are a great example of how local waterwise plants can spruce up a property and survive Western Australia’s hot, dry climate.
“Close to half our water usage goes to our gardens, so if you are looking for ways to cut down household water consumption, look no further than your plants,” Mayor Lynes said.
“With rainfall declining across Perth, and water restrictions in place during summer, having plants in your garden that can thrive with little water can make a huge difference.
“As a proud waterwise Council, we all have a role to play when it comes to reducing our water use. Autumn and winter are ideal for planting, so now is the time to establish your waterwise garden before the warm weather returns.”
