As one of the founding Local Governments of the Switch your thinking program we have been committed to sustainable actions for over 20 years. Switch your thinking continues to provide education, events and resources for our residents to access.

Climate Clever
If you've ever been keen to discover what your carbon footprint is or are interested in finding ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at home, work or school, then look at Climate Clever – a simple-to-use tool that helps to track greenhouse gas emissions.
The platform is free to use and is easy to sign up for. This short video gives you an insight of the platform's purpose and capabilities.
The Climate Clever platform enables you to add information from your electricity, gas and utilities bills, as well as your air-travel, personal vehicle use, out of home accommodation and paper use.
You can then create actions to help reduce your energy and water use as well as the associated financial costs. You can even set tasks for multiple members of your household, workplace or school.

New recycling hubs
The City has recently unveiled it's new recycling hubs. These hubs are located at our libraries and Civic Centre.
Residents are encouraged to use these hubs to recycle household hazardous waste (HHW) at this hubs.
HHW are items that must not be placed in the general waste bins at home. They cause contamination and are potentially dangerous if processed incorrectly.
You can drop off items such as aerosol cans, mobile phones and chargers, printer cartridges and light globes.
These items are then sent to be recycled for a second life.
Batteries are no longer accepted at City locations, and must be recycled using the B-Cycle program. Most retailers where batteries are purchased will now have a B-cycle bin.
Containers for Change
The Containers for Change initiative encourages people to recycle high-value items by providing 10c per container. The program aims to improve on Western Australia's current record of 4 out of 10 drink containers going to landfill.
The City has recently installed 12 container exchange points at key locations across the City. Community members can leave bottles and other containers that attract the 10c Containers for Change refund in the special baskets and cradles, allowing other community members to collect the containers and take them to be refunded.
Items returned under the program then to go approved recyclers - who then turn your containers into new glass and PET bottles, aluminum cans and other items like clothing and plastic-based construction items.
